DK-UN Fails to Decide Syria's Problem, Russia's Turn Continues Annan's Initiative

Tight competition Russia and China from one side and Western countries from the other side at the Thursday (7/6) session of the UN Security Council regarding Syria failed to produce an agreement. The tough negotiations that lasted up to 10 hours did not produce anything. Because the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Secretary General of the Arab League, and Kofi Annan, the special representative of the United Nations in their negotiations did not succeed in directing the results to one interest.

American, British, French and German representatives tried hard to implement Yemen's capital in Syria. In the framework of the Yemeni model, Bashar Assad will be given legal immunity not to be tried, but he must give up his power. In this session, Nabil el-Arabi, the Arab League Secretary General for the first time spoke openly to depose Bashar Assad from power. While Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, also criticized Syria and joined the West.

But what's interesting about this trial is Kofi Annan's statement. Because what made the West so obsessed was that Bashar Assad was deposed from power again in Kofi Annan's latest statement regarding a peace plan in Syria. Kofi Annan said that a six-point initiative to get Syria out of the crisis did not succeed in restoring peace in the country. Annan even called the Syrian government a factor in continuing violence and preventing the creation of peace in this country.

It is simple for the West, when there is no hope of resolving the Syrian problem through political channels, this is enough to justify military intervention. A strategy prepared by the West for Syria from the start. But the arrogant attitude of the West who wants to play in the Middle East is seen as incompatible with Russian and Chinese interests. Therefore, Beijing and Moscow have so far remained focused on supporting Kofi Annan's six-point initiative and trying to make this initiative a success.

But the problem is that Kofi Annan himself has raised his hands and has no hope of the success of the initiative he has brought for Syria. Seeing this fact, Russia has not lost its way and delivered its new initiatives. Moscow is trying to make a peaceful solution its priority to help create peace in Syria.

Vitaly Churkin, Vice Rusiah at the United Nations, said Moscow would soon host an international conference to resolve the Syrian crisis. Russia is well aware of Western countries that members of the Security Council will try to prevent UN support for the peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis. For this reason, the Russian plan will be followed up outside the Security Council and try to attract support from other countries. China at a meeting on Thursday night the UN Security Council reiterated that it strongly refused the military mechanism for Syria. Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister while speaking with Kofi Annan also expressed the same attitude and said that Kofi Annan's peace initiative could not be replaced by other means.
