Former Malaysian PM Warns of US Domination in the Asia Pacific




The former Malaysian Prime Minister considered the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation agreement between a number of countries in the region and the United States would cause Washington to dominate the region.


"American support for the trade and industry of countries in the region only aims to expand its dominance over the resources in the region," Mahatir Muhammad, as released on the website of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), was quoted by IRNA as saying Thursday 6).

The economic cooperation agreement between the countries of the Asia Pacific region and the United States is a free trade agreement, in which the purpose of economic liberalization of the area becomes the agenda of both parties.


Through the agreement, the United States seeks to establish relations with the economies of Asia Pacific region countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam which are experiencing rapid development.
