Mass organizations in Jakarta are prohibited from sweeping entertainment venues during Ramadan

To safeguard the history and tranquility of Muslims who run worship services in the month of Ramadan, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government calls on owners of nightclubs to close their business activities during the month of Ramadan. Moreover, the authority to prosecute nightclubs that violate the provisions is with the police and other relevant agencies.

"We strictly forbid CSOs from taking part in sweeping. If they (the mass organization) violate, clearly we will act firmly too," said Elfian during the socialization of the supervision of the Tourism Industry Ahead of Ramadhan 1433 H, in one star hotel in West Jakarta, Tuesday (19 / 6).

Even so, Elfian revealed, his party would put forward a persuasive and active approach to entertainment venues that were considered to have committed violations. "We hope that all managers of nightclubs will comply with all applicable regulations," he said.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office, Arie Budhiman, also appealed to all mass organizations in Jakarta not to participate in sweeping nightclubs. In fact, Arie explicitly said, his party would not tolerate if there were brutal actions from mass organizations that were still determined to carry out sweeping actions.

"CSOs do not try to take the initiative to supervise and take anarchic actions. If there is a violation, leave it to the authorities to take action. Do not play vigilante," Arie said.

Arie added, last year, there were at least eight nightclubs that were found to violate operating hours during the month of Ramadan. Whereas at present, there are at least 1,210 night entertainment entities in Jakarta.

In accordance with Perda No. 10 of 2004 concerning Tourism and DKI Jakarta Governor Decree No. 98 of 2004 concerning the Time of Implementation of the Tourism Industry and based on DKI Jakarta Governor Circular No. 15 / SE / 2012 concerning the time of tourism industry administration in Ramadan 1433 Hijri mentioned, tourism industry must be closed one day before the month of Ramadan, during the month of Ramadan and the day after Eid.

Whereas located in one room with karaoke business and live music can operate from 20.30 until 01.30. However, those that are not located in one room with these places operate from 10:00 to 24:00.

Sarpu, Head of the Supervision, Industrial and Business Supervision Division of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, said that as a regional law enforcement apparatus, he was ready to coordinate with the Tourism and Culture Office in maintaining the situation and the implementation of the tourism industry in harmony with Ramadan. During the month of Ramadan, around 200 people are deployed every day to carry out routine supervision. They consist of elements of the Satpol PP, the Office of Tourism and Culture, the National Unity and Police Agency, the Office of Social Affairs and the Polda Metro Jaya.

"Officers will patrol routinely, supervise entertainment venues, after tarawih prayer until Sahur time or before Fajr. For those who violate, we immediately check and be warned. If it is still stubborn, we may seal or even stop operations," he said
